On October 28, 2008, Dr. Terri Bowers gave a presentation at the Junior High School on "Arsenic in the Environment". Dr. Bowers discussed how arsenic is a naturally occurring element in our environment, where it typically is found and how people are exposed to it. Some detail was given on the studies performed in New York State and in particular Middleport. To view the slides of Dr. Bowers' presentation click here.

She is the author of more than 40 journal articles on these and other topics. Her areas of expertise include modeling of blood lead and urine arsenic levels resulting from exposure to environmental sources of lead and arsenic. Dr. Bowers is the author of an adult blood lead model now being used by the EPA, and she has worked on a number of sediment sites where she has developed unique statistical approaches to calculating soil cleanup levels. Prior to joining Gradient, Dr. Bowers held research and visiting faculty positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, where she taught courses in resource geology and applied thermodynamics.
